The Pôle Expérimental Métiers d’Art de Nontron et du Périgord Vert (PEMA)

Founded in 1999, PEMA’s role is to help the development of craft-professions in the area, by:

- Organising artist-residencies and themed craft exhibitions throughout the year;

- Heightening the public’s awareness of these crafts through educational activities and training schemes;

- Assisting professional craftsmen to perpetuate their know-how and facilitate the development of their activity within the region;

- Informing and welcoming professional craftsmen wishing to settle in the region.

PEMA organises artist-residencies, in order to allow a sharing of experiences and to encourage collaboration between contemporary designers and professional craftsmen.

By organising regular workshops, PEMA also introduces schoolchildren to the diversity and significance of the craft professions.

Each year, PEMA hosts 5 exhibitions whose aim is to heighten public interest in the crafts. These are organised in conjunction with various professional associations (wood-turners, ceramists, weavers, stained-glass makers, furniture designers, designers and so on) and other cultural organisms.

Lastly, it organises cutlery exhibitions in the Espace Lames et Métaux.
