Vauréal is part of Cergy-Pontoise, the Urban Community 20 miles North West of Paris Centre in Val d'Oise.

Nestling in the Oise Valley between the river and the Hautil forest, the town enjoys a privileged environment: a picturesque old village on the river bank, a new town-centre uphill with an architecture worth seeing, beautifully shaded avenues, greenery everywhere and a Belvedere with an enchanting view over the ponds and country park of Cergy Neuville. Vauréal offers both the quiet of a town in the country and the liveliness of a buoyant little town.

The town has many arts societies, an Arts Centre with a large range of activities, a yearly exhibition of modern art, a high school with courses in industrial arts, dance, music, drama. The town council is consequently very sensitive to arts in general. In 2008 they opened a centre dedicated to creators of both traditional and modern arts and crafts, with a view to preserve and develop craft expertise. The Centre spreads over 2500 m2 located in the heart of the ancient village, in an old farm renovated so as to combine respect of its traditional buildings around a paved courtyard and modern activities.

“La Cour des Arts” brings together twenty or so different craftsmen and designers working with such materials as wood, metal, clay, glass or fabrics. Throughout the year you can discover their products and know-how, pushing the door of the workshops, visiting the exhibitions or attending one of their courses.
