At the heart of Allier about fifteen kilometers from Montluçon, the village of Huriel is nested in a landscape of country side strong in its architectural and historical heritage. At the foot of its dungeon of the Toque, the monument of the XIIth century outstandingly preserved, extends the central place and its hundred year old cedar tree around which wind the medieval side streets.

It is in the side streets of the village that took up residence creative craftsmen in many numbers to know how to make : puppeteer, manufacturer of medieval shoes, wardrobe master, restorer of works of art, screen printer, illustrator painter, potter, creator of cardboard objects, etc….

In this area fed by legends, the inhabitants enjoy a relaxed rhythm of life and take advantage of the natural environment through the multiple hiking trails of which the circuit of “Master Bell ringers” which retraces over 180 kilometers the path used by the pipers in George Sand’s novel.

Carried by the association of local authorities of the area of Huriel, the development of the village of art grows rich every year in news initiatives : implantation of works of art, realization of a directional signaling system (indicating places of interest) creation of original signs to indicate every workshop. In 2015, new workshops adapted to the needs for craftsmen were made available. The quality of the welcome made for the newcomers remains a priority.

Since 2012, the association of local authorities in close link with the craftsmen of the territory created a special event management “The meeting of the Arts” which wil celebrate in 2016 its fifth edition. On every first Sunday of June, Huriel receives about fifty creative craftsmen from all over France who display under the more and more numerous eyes of a public in search of the know-how that the craftsmen have.
